2025 Proton eMas 7 EV SUV driven – first impressions

Yes, another round of previews for the Proton eMas 7. This time, we’ve seen the car without any camo stickers, and were given the chance to drive the EV around Proton’s semi high-speed test track in Shah Alam. Also allowed are our first impressions from the brief test, accompanied by pictures. Of the interior.
We can’t show you the unmasked eMas 7 exterior yet, as that’s scheduled for another date in Proton’s staggered roll-out plan. It’s getting a bit long-drawn but we’re getting closer now. Of course, you’ve already seen the electric SUV’s cabin – revealed to the public for the first time at ACE 2024 last month, where it was opened for booking – but we have outdoor shots here that coaxes a bit more blue out from the Indigo Blue colour. It appears black indoors.
We started off in the eMas 7 (yes, a competitor EV was on hand too), and there’s much less to note compared to a new ICE car, as electric vehicles of the same power class take off in the same manner. Of course, we’re looking at strong acceleration from rest thanks to max torque at ‘0 rpm’, so the Proton squats and shoots ahead without fuss. Getting up to urban cruising speed is easy, but you can say that about all EVs, even this one.

We pressed on to highway cruising speed. It’s expected that with EVs, the lack of engine/exhaust note means that occupants’ ears automatically tune-in to other noises – usually, it’s either ..

Perodua inks MoUs with Petronas on a variety of services, with Gentari on EV charging at its facilities

Perodua has announced the signing of MoUs with Petronas and Gentari to partner on various services that it says will enhance the retail experience for its customers.
The first MoU, inked between Perodua Sales and Petronas Lubricants Marketing (PLLMSB), Mesra Retail & Cafe and Setel Ventures (Setel), will see Perodua customers gaining access to new Petronas-based services at its service centres. Elements include the integration of Setel’s digital payment feature into Perodua’s UFirst app and the establishment of Mesra retail stations for added convenience. The collaboration will also see the setting up of Perodua service centres at selected Petronas stations.
Perodua president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad welcomed the expansion of the long-established partnership between the two brands. “Perodua Sales and PLMMSB have been partners for over 20 years and that partnership has proven mutually beneficial, and we will further expand this partnership that will benefit our valued customers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the second MoU, signed between Perodua Sales and Gentari through Gentari Green Mobility, will see the latter setting up charging facilities at existing Perodua service centres in view of Perodua’s upcoming move into the electric vehicle (EV) domain, expected to happen towards the end of 2025. The move is aimed at supporting Perodua customers in the transition to EVs.
“Gentari is excited to collaborate with Perodua in our effort to ..

2025 Proton Saga leaked? Photo emerges online

Are we looking at the next-gen 2025 Proton Saga? This photo was posted on the paultan.org Automotive/Car Facebook group. No details on where this photo is from, or if it’s authentic, but proportionally speaking, the short length and tall body does match the current Saga.
The fuel filler cap is on the left side. Homegrown Proton models traditionally have this on the right (driver’s) side, while the Geely-based models have it on the left (front passenger side) – could this new Saga be co-developed with Geely?
The incumbent Proton Saga is in its third generation. Born in 2016, it’s gone through two facelifts – 2019 was largely bye-bye Punch CVT, hello Hyundai-sourced four-speed auto (changed to Aisin in 2023), while 2022 introduced more equipment, minor design changes and a new Premium S variant.

Perodua year-end promo – Ativa gets RM1,500 cash rebate, RM4,000 discount for Aruz, now till Dec 31

Perodua is having a ‘Year End Special Rebate’ promo for the Ativa and Aruz from now December 31. The compact turbocharged SUV can be yours with a RM1,500 cash rebate, while the high-riding seven-seater MPV is being offered with a RM4,000 discount.
Launched in March 2021, the Ativa is still the only Perodua with a turbocharged engine. The A-segment SUV – the first P2 to ride on the DNGA platform – is powered by a 1.0-litre downsized turbo triple with 98 PS and 140 Nm of torque from 2,400 to 4,000 rpm. It’s paired to the D-CVT gearbox that’s now a mainstay for the market leader. The Ativa is priced from RM62,500 for the base X to RM73,400 for the top AV with the black roof option.
Introduced in early 2019, the Aruz is seven-seat MPV with SUV styling and ground clearance that’s higher than most SUVs (220 mm). This is the Aruz’s biggest differentiator from P2’s other seven-seater, the Alza – that one is car-like and rides 60 mm lower. For those who want tall car visibility and peace of mind from minor flooding, the Aruz would be a good tool.
The powertrain consists of a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with 102 PS/133 Nm, and a four-speed torque converter automatic sending drive to the rear axle. Passion Red joined the colour range in late 2021.
Aside from going to the showroom, you can also try Perodua Online Booking.

Proton opens Egypt CKD plant with PM Anwar Ibrahim – 12k units of Saga by end-2026, exports to Africa

Proton has opened its CKD plant in Egypt, its third currently in operation after Kenya and Pakistan. The plant in Al Oula Industrial Park, Giza was inaugurated by Malaysian prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, minister of investment, trade and industry Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Egyptian deputy prime minister Kamel Al-Wazir, among others.
The facility is owned by Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Automotive Factories (ESAF), a joint venture between Ezz Elarab and Elsewedy Capital Holding. Valued at US$35 million (RM155.9 billion), it has a production capacity of 20,000 units per shift and, at full capacity, is expected to provide jobs for up to 400 people.
The first CKD Saga packs were shipped to Egypt on September 9; the first completed units are expected to roll off the production line in December with a projected 2024 volume of 1,400 units. This is set to increase to 5,000 units next year, and Proton expects to ship a total of 16,000 CKD packs to the North African country across three years by the end of 2026.

In addition to local consumption, the CKD Sagas will be exported to countries in North and Sub-Saharan Africa, as the national carmaker looks to penetrate those markets as well as the Middle East. Proton expects to rake in RM570 million through these exports, along with a further RM20 million in revenue through parts exports.
“Proton is not just an automotive company; it is a source of pride and part of Malaysia’s identity,” said Anwar, adding that such joint ..
