Proton S70 R3 race car unveiled ahead of 2024 Sepang 1000KM; confirmed to use 1.6L NA Campro engine

Proton motorsport division, Proton R3 has officially unveiled the S70 R3 race car that it will field in the upcoming Sepang 1000KM race that is taking place next month at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit, as well as its line-up of drivers it has enlisted for the race.
The national carmaker’s motorsport division confirms what our ears have heard in prior teaser content Proton has released with regard to its S70 R3 racer, which is that the car does indeed house the 1.6 litre naturally aspirated, inline-four cylinder S4PH engine, and not the turbocharged, 1.5 litre inline-three cylinder engine as featured in the roadgoing S70 that is available for general sale.
The reason for using the naturally aspirated Campro engine is a straightforward one – technical regulations of the MTC category that Proton is entering in the Sepang 1000KM with the S70 R3, stipulates the use of a naturally aspirated engine with a maximum capacity of 1,600 cc. Therefore, the use of forced induction engines – such as the setup in the regular production S70 – is not allowed.

The decision to use the 1.6L Campro engine instead of converting the 1.5L three-pot for natural aspiration is because that engine was designed to work with forced induction, and to make it work as a naturally aspirated engine would require significant redevelopment.
In addition, the technical ruleset for the MTC category allows the use of engines from the same manufacturer, and using the existing 1...

Proton eMas 7 interior is full black in Malaysia – white seats seen in showrooms are early prototypes of EV

Click to enlargeThe Proton eMas 7 – which is now open for booking at an estimated price of from RM120,000 – made an appearance at ACE 2024 over the weekend with an open interior, and we saw a modern and premium-feel cabin decked out in Indigo Blue. Yes, officially, the name of the interior colour is Indigo Blue, although it looks black. We’ll take it as black.
But there are pictures of an eMas 7 at showrooms circulating, showing white leather seats and a white cockpit with a dark top – see the images above. We’ve enquired with Proton and can confirm that the Malaysian-market EV will be offered solely with a black interior, and the example with the white cabin is an early prototype.
In any case, even if the white cabin is available as an option, there will only be a small minority going for it – based on trend, unlike other markets, Malaysians are very conservative and practical when it comes to interior colours, with boring black always preferred over lighter tones. Senang kotor, as they say.

The eMas 7 will have five exterior colour options and one interior shadeAs for exterior colours, the five options span from floral to dark – choose from Quartz Rose, Turquoise Green, Platinum Silver, Lithium White and Slate Grey.
Two variants were announced at ACE 2024 – Prime and Premium. The base Prime comes with a 49.52 kWh battery that’s good for 345 km of WLTP range (it’s good that Proton uses WLTP in its materials, the super optimi..

Proton eMas 7 – Prime vs Premium variants compared; from RM120k estimated, up to 410 km WLTP EV range

Proton, through its Pro-Net EV division, recently opened the order books for the eMas 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7), which is estimated to start from RM120,000. Expected to be launched sometime in December (likely coinciding with KLIMS 2024), the brand’s first EV will be offered in two variants called the Prime and Premium.
If you’re not sure which one to get, we’re here to help. In this post, we’re comparing both variants so you know what you’re getting with each. Before getting into the difference, let’s first focus on what is the same for all versions of the eMas 7 that are set to go on sale.
First up, both variants share the same electric motor at the front that is rated at 218 PS (215 hp or 160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. This is good for a 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 175 km/h.

As for equipment, the eMas 7 comes standard with automatic LED headlamps, active high beam control, pop-out door handles, roof rails, rain-sensing wipers, powered side mirrors (with heating function), a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a multi-function steering wheel.
The list continues with leatherette upholstery, a six-way powered driver’s seat, keyless entry and start, walk away auto lock, a wireless phone charging pad as well as single-zone climate control with N95 filter and rear vents.
On the safety and driver assistance front, there are six airbags (front, side, curtain), brake auto hold, a..

The highlight of the paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) may be the new Proton eMas 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7), but the rest of the Proton stand at Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) is still worth visiting, as there are great deals on the flagship X90.
Offered on the three-row SUV is a cash rebate of up to RM3,000 and two years of free service worth RM2,175. To recap, the X90 is offered in four variants, all featuring a 190 PS/300 Nm 1.5-litre mild hybrid turbocharged engine, driving the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Visitors who test drive, place a booking and register a new Proton vehicle will also stand a chance to win a grand prize of a Proton S70 sedan through a lucky draw, as part of the Year-End Proton Vaganza campaign.

Of course, one can’t ignore the presence of the forthcoming eMas 7, which makes its public debut here ahead of its December launch. Developed alongside its Geely Galaxy E5 twin, Malaysia’s first production electric vehicle comes with an estimated price of RM120,000. It’s powered by a 218 PS/320 Nm front motor juiced by a choice of 49.52 and 60.22 kWh lithium iron polymer (LFP) batteries, providing a WLTP-rated range of 345 km and 410 km respectively.

ACE 2024: Perodua 1-Day Challenge starts; book, reg and drive away today – Aruz Elegant Black on display

Welcome to the paultan.org ACE 2024 show, and if you’re not already at Setia City Convention Centre, make sure you fit the show into your weekend plans, as there’s plenty of new models (and brands) to see under one roof, plus great deals and test drive sessions.
Perodua is part of ACE 2024, and the Malaysian market leader is having a ‘1-Day Challenge’ at the show. They’re saying that it’s possible to make a booking at ACE, and then get registration done on the spot. You’ll be able to drive home your new Perodua today itself. This has to be unprecedented as P2 is known for its waitlists.
I have a feeling that this is not applicable to all models, but the only way to find out is to come and see what’s on the drive-away list. If you’ve been considering one, this is the best time to take action because P2 has a RM1,000 cash rebate for the Axia in its ‘What’s Up Graduate?’ campaign, as well as a RM3,000 discount for the Aruz. Also, book at ACE and you’ll get a RM300 Perodua e-voucher.

There are also perks for existing owners. Among the offers are 15% discount on Perodua Genuine Oil and parts plus RM25 labour discount, special UFirst voucher redemption and great deals from its POV pre-owned division. I’ve redeemed a voucher for reduced UFirst points and you can do so too – RM5 P2, RM10 P2 and RM8 Tealive vouchers are available.
While there’s no new model at Perodua’s ACE 2024 booth, there’s a fresh-looking car, and..
