Proton eMas lineup teased – S70 Hybrid, Geometry Xingyuan EV to join Geely Galaxy E5-based SUV?

Proton has sprung quite a surprise by teasing new models under its eMas (stylised as e.MAS) new energy vehicle (NEV) sub-brand. We thought there was only going to be one electric SUV based on the Geely Galaxy E5, but it looks like there will be a sedan and a second hatchback/SUV as well.
The identity of these cars is a bit of a mystery. Geely offers several electrified sedans in China, including the plug-in hybrid Preface L Zhiqing and Emgrand L Hi-P, but the silhouette shown here appears to be identical to the S70. This points to the car being an electrified version of Proton’s existing four-door.
Helpfully, Geely already sells a hybrid version of the related fourth-generation Emgrand, powered by a 132 PS/175 Nm 1.8 litre methanol-capable naturally-aspirated four-cylinder. This is paired with a 136 PS/320 Nm electric motor, a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and a 1.83 kWh battery.
This revelation hasn’t exactly come completely out the blue. It’s been reported that Geely is open to working with Malaysia to introduce methanol-powered cars in the country, although there weren’t any details regarding an eventual timeline. The arrival of an S70 Hybrid that drinks methanol could mean the fuel is coming to our shores much faster than we expected.
The second car is well-known to us already. This is almost certainly the electric SUV build on the bones of the Galaxy E5, tipped to be called the eMas7 or eMas E7. Set to go on sale in China very soon, the Geel..

Trade-in for a Perodua Ativa, Aruz for two years free service – 7-seater gets extra RM2.5k off, ends July 31

Click to enlargePerodua is having a trade-in promo for the Ativa and Aruz for July 2024. Both the compact turbocharged SUV and the high-riding seven-seater MPV can be yours with two years of free service, with Aruz buyers getting an additional RM2,500 cash rebate.
It looks like this promo is done together with the company’s POV pre-owned vehicles division, as you’ll have to trade-in a vehicle to get the offer. By the way, Perodua’s POV takes in cars from all makes but will only resell Perodua cars. The deal expires on July 31.
Launched in March 2021, the Ativa is still the only Perodua with a turbocharged engine. The A-segment SUV – the first P2 to ride on the DNGA platform – is powered by a 1.0-litre downsized turbo triple with 98 PS and 140 Nm of torque from 2,400 to 4,000 rpm. It’s paired to the D-CVT gearbox that’s now a mainstay for the market leader. The Ativa is priced from RM62,500 for the base X to RM73,400 for the top AV with the black roof option.
Introduced in early 2019, the Aruz is seven-seat MPV with SUV styling and ground clearance that’s higher than most SUVs (220 mm). This is the Aruz’s biggest differentiator from P2’s other seven-seater, the Alza – that one is car-like and rides 60 mm lower. For those who want tall car visibility and peace of mind from minor flooding, the Aruz would be a good tool.
The powertrain consists of a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with 102 PS/133 Nm, and a four-speed torque converter automatic sending drive to the re..

2024 Proton X50 RC raked in 8,000 bookings in first month, production ramped up to meet demand

The 2024 Proton X50 RC (short for Running Change) has received ‘overwhelming response’, according to its maker. The refreshed SUV raked in 8,000 bookings in just one month since its debut in June, and Proton says that demand has far exceeded its expectations.
“In response to this overwhelming demand, Proton is ramping up production to expedite delivery timeline for eager customers by August 2024,” the company said in a statement. Since its debut in October 2020, Proton has sold 115,262 units of the X50 (includes exports, till June 2024), which it says has been Malaysia’s best-selling SUV.
“We are thrilled to see such exceptional booking numbers in the first month alone, which demonstrates the strong appeal of the 2024 Proton X50. This reaffirms our commitment to delivering outstanding value and quality to our customers,” said Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar.
“We understand the excitement and anticipation surrounding the 2024 Proton X50, and we want to assure our customers that we are doing everything possible to meet their expectations,” he added.

Roslan, who is also deputy CEO of Proton, said that all customers who are entitled for the early bird promotion of a RM7,000 cash discount and RM1,000/RM1,500 trade-in support will receive it accordingly.
To recap, the X50 RC is offered in the same Standard, Executive, Premium and Flagship variants, priced at RM86,300, RM93,300, RM101,800 and RM113,300, respectively, on-the-road without insur..

Perodua EV model confirmed for Q4 2025 launch – MCE Holdings sign contract to supply local parts

Amidst the recent hullabaloo surrounding Proton’s forthcoming electric vehicle, it’s easy to forget that Perodua is also planning to launch its first EV. We’ve seen a scale model and even a proof-of-concept prototype, the latter being called the emo-1 and apparently actually runs.
Now we have a launch timeline for P2’s EV. The news was buried in a Bursa Malaysia announcement by MCE Holdings, stating that its subsidiary Multi-Code Electronics Industries has signed contracts to supply the national carmaker with electronic and mechatronic components. These include the head unit, instrument cluster, advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), switchgear and interior lighting for the electric model.
Of note is that the supply of these components is expected to kick off in the second quarter of the financial year ending July 31, 2026. Converted to the usual calendar year, this means Perodua’s EV is expected to enter production in the fourth quarter of 2025.

In case you were wondering, the MCE Group is expecting to pocket around RM19.6 million from the project, offset by a total investment of RM12.8 million. The car is also expected to provide a positive contribution to the company over a 36-month period starting from the aforementioned financial year.
This Q4 2025 timeline means Perodua will just about make the 2025 deadline provided by the government. The car will be a major departure for the company – instead of deriving the technology from partner Daihatsu, Pero..
