Proton X50 R3 Lite Accessories Package – sportier wheels, bodykit, Premium and Flagship only, RM7.5k

Good morning, everyone! We’re at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, where Proton has released a new R3 Lite Accessories Package for the X50. Consisting of new wheels, exterior graphics and copious amounts of R3 badges, the pack brings much of last year’s R3 20th Anniversary Edition (which was limited to just 200 units) to a wider audience.
Exclusive to the RM101,800 Premium and RM113,300 Flagship variants of the B-segment SUV, the pack costs RM7,500 and is made available in limited quantities, offered on a first come, first served basis. Aside from the deletion of the matte black wrap, it is essentially identical to last year’s special edition.
On the outside, buyers will receive a bodykit consisting of a deeper front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser extension (here all finished in matte grey instead of yellow), as well as the “S” rear spoiler offered on the Geely Binyue/Coolray. You also get spindly 18-inch black lightweight alloy wheels, an R3 grille badge and an R3 Limited Edition rear badge, while a black and red bonnet stripe completes the look.
Inside, you’ll find an R3 embroidered headrest, along with an R3 Limited Edition dashboard badge and R3 carpets. No changes to the mechanicals, so the 1.5 litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine (which produces 150 PS/226 Nm in the Premium and 177 PS/255 Nm in direct-injected Flagship TGDi form), seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission and MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension are..

Proton EV brand naming contest – guess the name of the Geely Galaxy E5-based model and win up to RM5k

This just in – Proton New Energy Technology (Pro-Net) has announced a naming contest for the highly-anticipated Proton electric vehicle. This is the most public indication that the national carmaker’s first EV is coming, expected to be launched next year.
Specifically, the contest will decide the brand name of the car, hinting that the latter will be parked under a new sub-brand, similar to Geely’s Galaxy range of electrified vehicles. The fact that Pro-Net (and not Proton itself) is the one organising the competition also suggests that the car will be sold through the subsidiary’s dealer network, which makes sense given its electric powertrain.
As for the teaser itself, the outline drawing shown above is a tacit confirmation that new Proton EV will be based on the Geely Galaxy E5, revealed earlier this month – that car’s roof rails and slim headlights are visible in the image. The E5 was already widely touted to be the donor car, given that it has reportedly been developed with right-hand-drive markets in mind.

The E5 is based on the new Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), itself a development of the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), supporting not just pure electric vehicles but also range extender, plug-in hybrid and methanol technologies. It is also claimed to be the world’s first “AI digital chassis,” integrating the powertrain, chassis and driver assistance technologies.

Upgraded Proton 3S centre in Banting by EON opens

EON, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DRB-Hicom, today launched its revamped Proton 3S centre in Banting, Selangor. The facility used to only operate as a showroom, but now offers after-sales and spare parts replacement as well for the full 3S offering.
The RM6 million, 18,775 sq.ft facility can display eight units of Proton vehicles. It includes a 12,347 sq.ft service centre equipped with 10 service bays. Customers also stand to benefit from EON’s digitalisation push with the introduction of the Workforce Management platform, which allows for online appointments and real-time service updates. One can even book a car online via www.eon.com.my.
“The opening of the Proton EON Banting 3S Centre underscores EON’s continued focus on improving service to enhance customer satisfaction. This is in line with our position as Malaysia’s largest multi-brand car dealership,” said EON CEO Akkbar Danial, who is also DRB-Hicom’s head of automotive distribution.
“The revamped and the newly refurbished showroom will allow us to raise the game in terms of customer’s experience, while its strategic location will make it very convenient for the residents of Banting and the surrounding areas to access our 3S centre, whether it is for the purchase of new cars, or for after-sales servicing,” he added.
Located along Jalan Suasa opposite Econsave, EON’s Proton 3S centre is open from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm from Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on S..

Perodua hybrid tech to be at Malaysia Autoshow 2024?

The upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2024 will feature Perodua at the event, and a promotional image suggests that the national carmaker is set to bring a hybrid powertrain technology display to the show.
While the presence of a hybrid model among Perodua’s line-up of models was represented by the Ativa Hybrid, that was essentially a rebadged Daihatsu Rocky e-Smart Hybrid that was being trialled on a subscription basis.
The carmaker has previously stated that its first hybrid will be launched as variant in a full model change, which rules out the aforementioned Ativa as the crossover premiered in 2021, and a next-gen model will be some way off. The Myvi, too, is fairly recent in its facelift, which was launched late-2021, and the Axia is even newer.

Daihatsu Rocky e-Smart Hybrid powertrain (left); Malaysia Autoshow 2024 promotional image (right)Its use of a hatchback shape for the hybrid technology showcase would likely take a more generic form rather than one that is model-specific, though if we were to deduce from the image here, the technology display could represent a system with a battery pack that takes up more of the floor, and is therefore considerably larger than that of the Rocky e-Smart Hybrid.
Another possibility is the B-segment SUV codenamed D66B, which is closely related to the Toyota Yaris Cross, being a Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA)-based model. This has been recently tipped for a Malaysian launch in April, which has come and gone, though this mod..

2024 Proton X70 facelift sighted without disguise – new headlights, grille and bumper seen uncovered

The Proton X70 facelift has been previously been sighted a number of times, but always disguised to mask its looks, even up to when it was seen out in the open earlier this month. Now, it has been spotted for the first time without camo in a photo sent in by reader Prince El Rachid.
The image shows the front half of the refreshed SUV, uncovered, presumably undergoing what looks to be a TVC shoot, offering a clear view of the vehicle’s new face. There’s a new bumper as well as slimmer, reprofiled LED headlights and a new grille design – with cascading pin motifs – that was partially shown in earlier spy shots.
As highlighted previously, the car also gets a new wheel design, in this case similar in styling to that used on the Geely Boyue update that emerged in 2022. No view of the rear, so the changes there will have to wait to be documented when the time comes.

Aside from the exterior changes, it has been ventured that the refresh doesn’t alter the interior, with the reworked car set to offer the same Hangzhou Bay Bridge-inspired dashboard design as seen on the current model.
The tech however should get an upgrade, with the facelift tipped to add a new steering wheel, seven-inch digital instrument display and 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen – all lifted from the newer X50.
It has also been confirmed that the reworked SUV’s driving assistance system will also get upgrades, with Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), which combines ACC with st..

Perodua enters Bangladesh – PHP to assemble and sell Axia, Myvi, Bezza and Aruz; Ativa and Alza coming

Perodua has added another foreign market to its export portfolio, with the brand now having made its way to Bangladesh. Last month, the national automaker inked a deal with PHP Motors, a subsidiary of the PHP Family, for the latter to assemble and sell its vehicle models in the country.
According to The Business Standard, PHP Motors is launching four Perodua models in Dhaka today. The four models are the Axia, Myvi, Bezza and Aruz, and will be assembled at the company’s Saraipara Halishahar plant in Chattogram (formerly Chittagong). PHP Motors MD Mohammed Akther Parvez added that there were plans to expand the line-up in the coming future.
“Perodua has six models. We are working on all the models. Initially, we will assemble (these) four models in our factory and sell them. The other models (the Alza and Ativa) will also be assembled and launched soon,” he said.
If the PHP name sounds familiar, that’s because the company used to handle Proton. Proton is now represented in Bangladesh by local conglomerate Rancon, which is set to assemble the X90 in the country later this year.
Although PHP has terminated its agreement with Proton, it said it would honour all existing warranties for Proton vehicles. “While signing the agreement with Perodua, we have included this condition to allow us to provide after-sales services to previously sold Proton cars and they have appreciated our commitment,” Akther said.
