Proton to improve parts supply with new warehouse management system, regional parts centre in Sabah

Proton has announced initiatives to improve parts supply in order to better cater to increased market demand. Key to the carmaker’s aftersales improvement efforts is Proton Parts Centre (PPCSB), which was established on June 19, 1992 and is currently headquartered at Hicom-Glenmarie Industrial Park.
PPCSB currently serves a network of 354 body and paints shops, parts stockists, authorised service centres as well as 26 overseas distributors. Over the past two years, the company has invested to expand its warehousing facilities by over 35%.
At present, the main facility occupies 26,700 square metres and serves as the primary operation hub to handle all functions crucial to the supply chain, including order processing, import, export and East Malaysia transfers.
On average, between 2,500 and 4,500 line orders are processed daily by PPCSB, and the company has increased its stock holding level by 1.5 times compared to 2022, equating to a current inventory worth over RM130 million comprising of 30,000 different parts.
Average daily delivery output has also gone up by 35%, while other improvements have resulted in a 63% reduction work-in-progress volume as more orders are fulfilled within the service promise committed timeframe.
Stock transfers to East Malaysia have also doubled in recent years as a new streamlined supply chain process boosts parts availability and enables direct deliveries from overseas vendors to East Malaysia. On that mention, the company plans to add more space..

Proton X90 – Bangladesh CKD assembly by end-2024

Proton X90 in MalaysiaThe Proton X90 has been launched in Bangladesh last week, according to BNN, which reported that the SUV is set for local assembly in the country by the end of this year.
The three-row SUV gets its Bangladesh-market introduction a little under one year after it made its debut in May 2023. A sum of US$100 million (RM472.9 million) has been allocated for the establishing of a manufacturing facility within the Rancon industrial park. Rancon is a Bangladesh-based conglomerate that is the distributor of Proton vehicles in the country.
While Bangladesh has been in the list of Proton’s export markets, it also has been the site of Proton’s local assembly operations before, with the Preve commencing local assembly in the country in 2017.
In Bangladesh, as in Malaysia, the Proton X90 is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as found in the X50 Flagship and X70 SUV, with a 48-volt mild-hybrid electrical system that augments outputs to 190 PS and 300 Nm, or 13 PS and 45 Nm up from the 177 PS and 255 Nm from the models without the belt-starter generator 48-volt system.

Proton diversifies income stream, ‘Global Services’ handles cafe, merchandise, R3 division, solar panels

Proton is diversifying its operations and revenue stream by exploring opportunities within the automotive ecosystem and beyond, and leading the effort is Proton Global Services (PGS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Proton Edar.
Established in 2021 with just one F&B and merchandise outlet, PGS has expanded its scope of operations to now encompass six key areas, namely Lifestyle, Engineering, Training, New Energy, Logistics and R3 Motorsports. Led by CEO Lee Yeet Chuan, revenue has increased exponentially from below RM1 million in 2021 to 19 times that at the end of 2023. PGS is now a key contributor to Proton’s business network.
PGS’ most visible businesses are the Lifestyle and R3 Motorsports divisions. The former is tasked with managing the Proton Cafe and selling Proton merchandise while the latter is focused on developing performance variants and running Proton’s racing activities.
Launched in 2021, Proton Cafe offers customers freshly brewed coffee and food items in a relaxed setting. To date, 16 outlets are operating at Proton dealerships and there are plans to reach 25 outlets by 2025. As for merchandising, Proton merch has long been available, but commercialisation has now started under PGS. There are currently 20 Proton merchandise partners nationwide as well as a virtual shop at protonmerchandise.com.
R3 Motorsports celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023 with the launch of the Proton X50 R3 20th Anniversary Edition. This year, the division is focusin..

Proton S70 review – better buy vs City and Vios?

Here it is, my full in-depth review of the new Proton S70. As usual it’s very long – though my initial X50 review was even longer – but it covers all you need to know about Proton’s latest sedan – everything that is good and bad, plus how it compares against the X50, Honda City and Toyota Vios.
The review covers the segment confusion (whether it’s a B or C, and if that’s even relevant – short answer, no), variant/price breakdown, interior quality and space, fit and finish issues, spec levels, equipment omissions, performance, fuel economy, refinement, ride and handling, ADAS, the lot. It’s purely intended for those looking to buy the S70, hence the detail and length.
As a quick recap, the Proton S70 comes in four variants: Executive for RM73,800, Premium for RM79,800, Flagship for RM89,800 and Flagship X for RM94,800. My take is, do ignore the first two for their complete lack any form of ADAS active safety features – AEB at least should be a bare-minimum essential item for any new car in 2024, and I don’t buy Proton’s reasoning for this omission one bit.
All variants get the same 1.5 litre three-cylinder MPI turbo engine with 150 PS and 226 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed wet dual clutch transmission. The combo is a big upgrade over the base Geely Emgrand’s 1.5 NA and CVT package, but Proton’s locally-led transplant job leaves a lot to be desired. More on the poorly calibrated transmission/throttle in the video above.
Do leave a co..
