Perodua enters into strategic partnership with TM for EV development and infrastructure upgrade

Perodua has entered into a strategic partnership with TM to advance electric vehicle (EV) development, digital innovation, and sustainable growth.
Formalised during a recent signing ceremony between Perodua president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad and TM’s group CEO Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, the collaboration covers four strategic areas, namely Hyperconnected Network, Advancing Digital Technology, Enriching Customer Experience and Environmental Sustainability.

Tour the Perodua eMO-II Concept in augmented reality (AR) form – P2’s first EV due Q4 2025, below RM90k

Click to enlargeDid you manage to check out the Perodua eMO-II Concept in person at the just-concluded Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024? Perodua’s best and most important concept car yet (fully designed in-house, heralds a new beginning for the brand) is quite a looker, sharp and sporty. Bodes well for the production EV that’s due a year from now, which could very well look like this.
If you weren’t at KLIMS 2024, here’s a chance for you to tour the eMO-II Concept, in augmented reality (AR) form. Scan the QR code above and follow the instructions. Even if you were at the motor show, check this out for a deep dive into the eMO’s cabin.
Mind you, this thing isn’t done for fun. A publicly announced deadline by the government has forced P2 to come up with an EV from scratch. That’s because unlike Proton, P2’s foreign partner Daihatsu does not have a suitable donor car, and the R&D team in Rawang have been on an EV crash course. The process is still ongoing, but as we can see in this ‘Episode 2’, much progress has been made.

Expect an LFP battery from CATL, one of the world’s top EV battery makers, around 400 km of range and a price tag between RM50k to RM90k. Perodua believes that its EV will be the cheapest in the market, even after the current RM100k minimum price for CBU imported EVs is lifted.
Away from the actual car, getting the bulk of Malaysians to switch from ICE to EV won’t be easy, and the most commonly cited ..

Top 20 best-selling cars in Malaysia YTD Nov 2024 – Perodua’s, Honda’s entire range, 5 Toyotas, 4 Protons

The Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) latest registration data is out, and it’s starting to sound like a broken record (forgive the pun) for Perodua, whose Bezza-Axia-Myvi triumvirate stays glued to the 1-2-3 podium, selling 9,507, 7,625 and 6,533 units in November for year-to-date (YTD) sums of 91,453, 80,810 and 66,269 units respectively. Will the Bezza break 100k this year?
In fifth and sixth are the Alza (Nov 4,118, YTD nearly 40k) and Ativa (Nov 2,478, YTD 32,833). Aruz aside, which lags a long way behind in 14th (Nov 1,547, YTD 14,574), Sungai Choh’s chart-topping streak is bisected by Proton’s best-seller, the Saga, in fourth (Nov 5,436, YTD almost 64k).
You’ll find the next Proton in 10th – the X50 (Nov 1,873, YTD 20,386) is just ahead of the Honda HR-V in 11th (Nov 1,923, YTD 18,587) while the Toyota Corolla Cross is far down in 16th (Nov 700, YTD 12,687) because it’s transitioning to the KLIMS-launched facelift.

At 12th and 13th are Protons Persona (Nov 1,394, YTD 17,311) and S70 (Nov 1,301, YTD 17,235), some way away from Toyota’s and Honda’s champions, the Vios (Nov 2,742, YTD 25,647) and City (Nov 2,130, YTD 24,887) at seventh and eighth. Note that the City’s numbers include the hatchback, whereas the Vios is separate from the Yaris, which is all the way down in 19th (Nov 945, YTD 9,398). Apples to apples, it’s 35,045 Toyota Vios/Yaris versus 24,887 Honda City sedan/hatchback.
Toyota’s runner-up is the ninth-placed Hilux (Nov 2,177, YTD 22,094)..

Production Perodua EV based on eMO-II rendered – due Q4 2025, 400 km range, CATL LFP batt, RM50k-90k

Click to enlargePerodua says that its eMO-II Concept, star of the ongoing Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024, has all of the essence of the company’s first EV, which is due in the final quarter of 2025. The production car will have a variance of just a few percent – of course, the concept has been jazzed up for motor show purposes.
Photoshop whiz Theophilus Chin has done what he does best here, with his take on the production eMO-II. Named ‘Perodua Ace’ after some rumours, these renderings strip out the overly fancy bits from the KLIMS showcar, such as the camera wing mirrors and mega 19-inch aero wheels, replaced by regular items.
Also deleted by Theo are the concept car’s geometric decorative pattern that’s found on the front, rear, side skirts and roof. The empty face is then filled with slim LED headlamps (showcar only has a full-width light bar), a pattern on the nose (a bit like the Corolla Cross facelift perhaps, but without holes of course) and a regular-looking front chin/intake with some intake holes. Solid logo instead of an illuminated one, too.

Click to enlargeOne of the concept’s most prominent lines is the ‘fin’ on the rear doors that somewhat emphasises the shapely wheel arches. That fin has a vent, which Theo has removed here. At the back, Theo has given the eMO-II realistic tail lamps while maintaining a horizontal light bar (embedded in the showcar’s glass), plus Perodua script in place of ..

Perodua on track for record sales in 2024 – 353,000 units, up 7%, est market share of 44% vs 800k TIV

Perodua has been extremely quiet this year. Usually, people hide in the cave when they are embarrassed (football fans of various colours take turns checking in), so if you apply the normal logic, things probably aren’t going great over at Rawang and there’s nothing to shout about.
We should know better by now, though. At the press day of the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) yesterday, where Perodua unveiled the eMO-II EV concept, president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said that the carmaker is on track for another record year of sales.
With almost a month to go, Perodua is looking at sales of around 353,000 units this year, barring any unfortunate events. As the company typically sells everything it produces with minimal stock hanging around, total production volume for 2024 is estimated to be around 364,000 units.

In May, the company revealed that its sales target for 2024 was to maintain the level of 2023, which was a record 330,325 units. That figure is 17.1% higher than the 282,019 units registered in 2022, which by the way, was a record back then. So, if they hit 353,000 units come December 31, it would be nearly 7% higher than the stated target.
Zainal expects Malaysia’s 2024 total industry volume to be close to last year’s level, which is around 800,000 units. If we take the Perodua’s projected 353,000 units against an 800k TIV, market share for the perennial market leader would be 44.1% of the pie. It has ..

Perodua eMO-II is ‘Episode 2’, third is production EV below RM90k in 2025; fully developed in-house – CEO

There’s something different about concept cars from national makes, as they preview something that many of us can potentially afford. They’re more significant, they conjure up more excitement.
Tasked by the government to come up with an affordable EV by a publicly announced deadline (no pressure!), Perodua started from scratch (unlike Proton, P2’s foreign partner Daihatsu does not have a suitable donor car), knuckled down, and delivered in style with the eMO-II concept that has made its debut at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024.
The previous eMO (pronounced as M-O) was a 1:6 scale model unveiled in May 2023. This is a full-sized working prototype that Perodua president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad described as the second episode of P2’s EV journey. The third episode, he says, will be the production car that will surface next year – the company’s first-ever EV.

“This prototype is the continuation of our EV journey as we continue to build this technology from the ground up. eMO-II has been improved from its predecessor in terms of styling and features, and it’s now more defined as we chart our EV future,” he said, while reminding us that the eMO-II is still a prototype. “There are plenty of other features and improvements that we will add to our finished product,” Zainal added.
The eMO-II was fully developed in-house by Perodua’s R&D team and akin to being thrown into the proverbial deep end of..
