Perodua hybrid tech to be at Malaysia Autoshow 2024?

The upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2024 will feature Perodua at the event, and a promotional image suggests that the national carmaker is set to bring a hybrid powertrain technology display to the show.
While the presence of a hybrid model among Perodua’s line-up of models was represented by the Ativa Hybrid, that was essentially a rebadged Daihatsu Rocky e-Smart Hybrid that was being trialled on a subscription basis.
The carmaker has previously stated that its first hybrid will be launched as variant in a full model change, which rules out the aforementioned Ativa as the crossover premiered in 2021, and a next-gen model will be some way off. The Myvi, too, is fairly recent in its facelift, which was launched late-2021, and the Axia is even newer.

Another possibility is the B-segment SUV codenamed D66B, which is closely related to the Toyota Yaris Cross, being a Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA)-based model. This has been recently tipped for a Malaysian launch in April, which has come and gone, though this mod..

Perodua enters Bangladesh – PHP to assemble and sell Axia, Myvi, Bezza and Aruz; Ativa and Alza coming

Perodua has added another foreign market to its export portfolio, with the brand now having made its way to Bangladesh. Last month, the national automaker inked a deal with PHP Motors, a subsidiary of the PHP Family, for the latter to assemble and sell its vehicle models in the country.
According to The Business Standard, PHP Motors is launching four Perodua models in Dhaka today. The four models are the Axia, Myvi, Bezza and Aruz, and will be assembled at the company’s Saraipara Halishahar plant in Chattogram (formerly Chittagong). PHP Motors MD Mohammed Akther Parvez added that there were plans to expand the line-up in the coming future.
“Perodua has six models. We are working on all the models. Initially, we will assemble (these) four models in our factory and sell them. The other models (the Alza and Ativa) will also be assembled and launched soon,” he said.
If the PHP name sounds familiar, that’s because the company used to handle Proton. Proton is now represented in Bangladesh by local conglomerate Rancon, which is set to assemble the X90 in the country later this year.
Although PHP has terminated its agreement with Proton, it said it would honour all existing warranties for Proton vehicles. “While signing the agreement with Perodua, we have included this condition to allow us to provide after-sales services to previously sold Proton cars and they have appreciated our commitment,” Akther said.

Perodua to increase exports by 79% to 1,960 units in 2024 – Alza and Axia recently launched in Brunei

Perodua has revealed it plans to increase its exports by 79% to 1,960 units this year from 1,094 units in 2023. As part of this foreign market expansion, the carmaker recently launched the new Alza (AV and H variants) and Axia (AV and G variants) in Brunei on May 3, 2024.
According to Perodua, the sales target for the Alza in Brunei is 120 units while it is 40 units for the Axia. In terms of pricing, the Alza retails for 30,900 Brunei dollars (about RM109k) for the AV variant and BND27,900 (RM100k) for the H variant. Meanwhile, the Axia in AV guise is BND21,900 (RM77k) and the G is BND17,900 (RM63k).
The company has been exporting to Brunei for some time, and for 2024, it is targeting to sell a total of 460 units there. The Bezza 1.0L G, which is also sold there at BND16,900 (RM59k) is expected to make up the bulk of sales this year with a targeted 300 units. In 2023, Perodua sold 300 units of the Bezza 1.0L G in Brunei, making the country its highest export market of 2023.

“We foresee 2024 to be our first year of our export expansion as we are now at a point where the Malaysian automotive ecosystem would be able to cope with the ever-growing demand of our vehicles both within and outside the country,” said Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, president and CEO of Perodua.
“Brunei is the first export market we are expanding to without compromising domestic allocation of our vehicles. In fact, we have significantly reduced the waiting period for most of our popu..

Toyota to take over ASEAN car development in wake of Daihatsu safety scandal – will Perodua be affected?

Toyota and Daihatsu have made far-reaching structural reforms in the wake of the latter’s crash test rigging scandal, which caused a stop-sale on all Daihatsu-developed models and impacted the near-spotless reputation of both companies. The press release stated that the move will affect the firms’ overseas business structure and reorganise Daihatsu into a “mobility company centred on mini vehicles [i.e. kei cars].”
The reforms are aimed at preventing a repeat of the so-called “procedural irregularities” by recognising “Daihatsu’s [lack of?] resources and actual conditions,” instead leveraging the company’s strengths to “build ever-better cars.” Such a statement can be read in several ways, but it essentially means that Daihatsu will withdraw from global car development and return to building kei cars for the Japanese market.
As a result of the reform, the Emerging-market Compact Car Company that spanned both Toyota and Daihatsu will be dissolved, with product planning responsibilities being shifted to the Toyota Compact Car Company. The latter will be the contractor to Daihatsu in emerging markets (such as Southeast Asia) and handle the entire process of creating future models, from development to certification.

Perodua EV due at the end of 2025, Zafrul reiterates

Perodua ‘MyEV’ rendered based on the 2023 EMO ConceptEarlier this year, minister of international trade and industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz revealed on X that Perodua was scheduled to begin mass production of its first EV at the end of 2025, which is just in time for the eventual lifting of price cap protection measures.
The MITI minister reiterated that timeframe once again in another post on X earlier today, having met with senior Perodua executives, including president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, yesterday to find out more about the development of the automaker’s EV project and how the government could help to make the project a success.
While repeating the point about Perodua’s appointment as the lead in the production of affordable EVs under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), Zafrul did not indicate how far development has progressed on the project.
Previously, he had intimated that the automaker had developed an electric-powered prototype in cooperation with an ‘international automotive company’, which while not named is undoubtedly Perodua’s technical partner and shareholder, Daihatsu.
Virtually nothing is known about P2’s electrification project, with the company not having stated what sort of EV is being planned for the market. So far, whatever indicators there have been point to a hatchback-styled offering, with the strongest hint coming from the Electric Motion Online (EMO) concept th..
