There has been no shortage of exterior wraps for the Proton eMas 7, and the movement continues with this one, which dresses up the all-electric SUV in a striking chrome finish, replete with a pattern consisting of dotted shaped decals.
On display at KLIMS 2024, the Nadi eMas 7 is, as its suffix implies, a pulse on sustainability, with the aim being to see how many kilogrammes of CO2 can be reduced annually with each eMas7 on the road. The SUV isn’t yet, of course, but this is the last masking exercise for it, as it is set to be launched on December 16.
Given all that has been seen and written about it, everyone should know the eMas 7 well enough by now, but let’s recap it once more. It’s based on the Geely Galaxy E5, which incidentally has just made its way to Thailand as the EX5, but Proton says the two companies worked together concurrently on the model, involving 230 Proton engineers and designers, 700,000 man hours and over 10 million km worth of testing.
Motive power is provided by a front-mounted electric motor producing 214 hp (218 PS, or 160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. This is good enough to make the eMas 7 the fastest-accelerating Proton ever from standstill to 100 km/h, with 6.9 seconds needed for that. Meanwhile, top speed is 175 km/h.
The EV will go on sale in two variant forms, these being the Prime and Premium, and both get different battery capacities. The base Prime is equipped with a 49.52 kWh battery that offers up to 345 km of WLTP-rated travel, while the Premium has a 60.22 kWh battery that provides a range of 410 km (again, WLTP).
As for charging, the maximum DC rate is 80 kW for the 49.52 kWh battery and 100 kW for the 60.22 kWh unit, while AC charging is 11 kW for both. Claimed DC fast charging times is 20 minutes from 30-80% SoC, or 30 minutes for the more conventional 10-80% measurement, while AC charging from 30-80% refills the smaller capacity pack in 4.9 hours, and 6.1 hours for the larger unit.
Pricing for the eMas7 is expected to start from RM120,000, but we’ll know soon enough how much it costs when the wraps (ha!) finally come off it on December 16. In the meantime, read our first impressions of it here.
