Proton, through its Pro-Net (Proton New Energy Technology) subsidiary, has announced it has appointed 36 dealerships for its eMas (stylised as e.MAS) sub-brand. This is an increase from the 29 dealerships announced during the preview of the eMas 7 in August this year.

Proton eMas was officially launched on June 12, with the eMas 7 set to be the first of a few models presumably coming our way. A month after the brand’s introduction, it was revealed that there would be 18 eMas showrooms, with the company aiming to have 25 by 2025. In the following month, that figure rose to 29 confirmed dealerships, with 25 set to be opened by the time the eMas 7 goes on sale, including in East Malaysia.

In the same release announcing the increase in appointed eMas dealerships, the company also said it brought 40 dealer executives and principals to visit the Geely Research Institute (GRI) in Hangzhou, China. Besides a tour of the facility, the guests also had the chance to sample a few Geely models on closed roads.

“Since the launch of the Proton e.MAS brand in June, the pace of development ahead of our first model launch has been breathtaking. The addition of 19 new dealerships to our ecosystem shows the enthusiasm surrounding the impending arrival of Proton’s first EV while the enthusiastic response received from our dealer principals who participated in the Geely tour has been overwhelming,” said Zhang Qiang.

“Geely’s extensive research into intelligent technology development has enhanced their readiness to operate their Proton e.MAS dealerships while growing Malaysia’s EV ecosystem,” the CEO of Pro-Net added.

Ahead of the eMas 7’s launch, we had the chance to try out the Geely Galaxy E5 and you can read our thoughts on electric vehicle (EV) here. We have been told numerous times that the eMas 7 and Galaxy E5 are products to emerge from a joint effort between Proton and Geely, with both models sharing a nearly identical look.

The headline facts and figures from our time with the Galaxy E5 are that it is front-wheel drive, has 218 PS (215 hp or 160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque, will get from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, is capable of a top speed of 184 km/h, is equipped with a 60.22-kWh Aegis lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a range of up to 530 km following China’s highly generous CLTC standard.
