2024 Proton X50 RC achieves best 2024 sales result in July with 2,585 units, 60% of buyers aged 26 to 50

Aside from releasing its sales figures for the month of July 2024, Proton has also highlighted the performance of the 2024 X50 RC, which was its second best-selling vehicle after the evergreen Saga. As previously reported, the national carmaker recorded 2,585 sales of the mildly refreshed B-segment SUV during its first full month of sales – a performance it says enables the car to maintain its lead in the segment.
This figure, the highest for the model in 2024, contributed significantly to the total tally of nearly 120,000 X50s sold since its launch in October 2020, maintaining its status as the fastest-selling SUV in Malaysia. The company claims that despite competition from Japanese and Chinese brands, the X50 managed to secure a 10.3% market share amongst SUVs from January to July, “easily outpacing” its rivals.
Proton also says the X50 appeals to a wide demographic, with equal sales between male and female buyers and 60% of buyers being aged between 26 and 50 years old. Feedback from customers is that the car is the right size for both single individuals and couples with young children, the company adds.
“July’s sales performance for the 2024 Proton X50 is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team at Proton who listened closely to customer feedback. The model’s blend of performance, safety, and connectivity continues to resonate with our customers, this satisfying their needs. At the same time, Proton has made local produ..

Proton eMas – 29 dealers signed, 25 to be opened at launch; Kota Kinabalu and Kuching included

Aside from previewing the electric eMas 7 SUV, Proton also announced that it has signed 29 dealers – up from 18 previously – for its electrified eMas (stylised as e.MAS) sub-brand, with the company aiming to have 25 outlets be opened by the time the car launches in December. The upcoming showroom locations are spread across nearly all states, including Sabah and Sarawak.
Predictably, the vast majority of dealers are located in the central region – three in Kuala Lumpur (Cheras, Jalan Kuching and Jalan Tun Razak) and nine in Selangor (two in Petaling Jaya and one each in Rawang, Glenmarie, Kajang, Puncak Jalil, Balakong, Shah Alam and Puchong).
There will also be three showrooms in Johor (Plentong, Medini and Johor Bahru) and Perak (two in Ipoh and one in Taiping), along with two in Penang (Butterworth and Georgetown) and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The rest of the dealers will be located in Sungai Petani, Kedah; Kota Bharu, Kelantan; Kuala Terengganu, Kuantan, Pahang, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Kuching, Sarawak.
The first model in the eMas lineup will be the eMas 7, co-developed with Geely alongside the Galaxy E5. Based on the Global Modular Architecture (GMA), the car will utilise a 12-in-1 motor with a claimed 90.04% efficiency and a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery utilising Aegis “short blade” battery cells. It will also utilise a Flyme Auto infotainment system powered by a 7 nm chip.
No specs have been released just yet, but the Galaxy E5 in China is offered ..

Proton eMas 7 EV is first of five models based on Global Modular Architecture; plug-in hybrids to come

Just previewed today, the Proton eMas 7 (stylised e.MAS 7) is the national carmaker’s first electric vehicle that will go on sale in Malaysia by the end of this year.
The national carmaker has also revealed that the eMas 7 is the first to built on the Global Modular Architecture, or GMA. While Proton’s first EV was previously understood to predate the five GMA-based eMas models, the carmaker has now said that the eMas 7 is the first of the five to be underpinned by the GMA platform.
In sequence, the eMas 7 is underpinned by GMA 01, which is the first of five GMA-based models, the other four being the GMA 02, GMA 03, GMA 05, and GMA 06. Phase 1 of the GMA-based product rollout covers the first three models, with the subsequent GMA 04 and GMA 05 models to come in Phase 2.

While related to the Geely Galaxy E5 that made its debut in China in May this year, Proton says that the eMas 7 is not merely a rebadge of the E5, and that both the Geely and the Proton were co-developed between both car companies.
As such, the eMas 7 – by extension of the Geely Galaxy E5 – is underpinned by the Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) with cell-to-body (CTB) construction that uses the battery pack as a structural member, contributing to the model’s torsional rigidity of 31,000 Nm per degree.
Referencing the E5 it is based on, the eMas will be a front-wheel-drive model with a single-motor powertrain with 218 PS and 320 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of ..

Proton eMas 7 SUV – co-developed with Geely Galaxy E5; first Malaysian-brand EV on sale by end 2024

Proton has revealed its hotly anticipated and first electric vehicle (EV) called the eMas 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7) that will be sold under its eMas brand, which was announced in June this year and managed by Proton New Energy Technology (Pro-Net) – the division also handles smart here.
As we guessed previously, the eMas 7 has ties with the Geely Galaxy E5 that made its debut in China in May this year – pre-sales began shortly after. Built on the Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), the E5 was designed from the start with left- and right-hand drive markets in mind to be a global model.
At today’s event, Proton claims the eMas 7 is not a simply rebadge of the E5 and that the model was actually co-developed between both car companies. It added that 230 Proton engineers and designers were involved in the development of the vehicle from the beginning, with a total of 700,000 manhours and 10 million km of testing and validation carried out.
Based on Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) with cell-to-body tech
The GEA platform is a development of Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) and is said to be the “world’s first four-in-one AI intelligent architecture” that combines “hardware, systems, ecology and artificial intelligence.” While EVs are well within the GEA’s use case, the platform can also accept an internal combustion engine for range-extender, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and even methanol appli..
