Proton eMas – more dealers urged to join as Pro-Net expands network to 18 showrooms, targets 25 by 2025

With Proton’s new eMas electric vehicle brand slowly but surely building up to its 2025 launch, its custodian Pro-Net is looking for more dealers to join its network. The national carmaker’s new energy vehicle (NEV) subsidiary has recently expanded its list of showrooms by one, bringing the total number to 18.
Those 1S, 2S and 3S outlets, operated by 16 dealers, include four in Selangor, three in Kuala Lumpur and Perak, two in Pulau Pinang and Johor and one each in Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang and in East Malaysia in Sabah. Pro-Net says this expansion “underscores our commitment to providing accessible and comprehensive support to our customers,” with the goal of developing “community spaces” with “seamless digital platforms” and EV chargers.
Pro-Net is targeting to grow the number of outlets to 30 by 2025, and to that end, it is calling for more dealers to join the network. The company is specifically looking to build its presence in the central region (Kuala Lumpur and Selangor) as well as Alor Setar in Kedah, Kuala Terengganu, Seremban in Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat and Muar in Johor, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri in Sarawak, and Sandakan and Tawau in Sabah.

Proton S70 – 1,440 units sold in June, surpasses 10k units in 2024; higher volume than X50 SUV this year

Sales of the Proton S70 may have only kicked off this year, but the new sedan has already been a runaway success, with sales surpassing 10,000 units. Pushing the car past the milestone were June sales of 1,440 units, just behind the revised 2024 X50 (1,711 units).
In fact, with a total of 10,914 units sold in the past six months, the S70 has handily outperformed the X50 (10,204 units) this year. Proton continues to claim that the car has led the C-segment sedan standings every month, even though, in reality, the car straddles both the B- and C-segments.
Even with sales at their lowest since January (1,442 units), the S70 was still the company’s second best-selling sedan after the Saga, sales of which hit 5,441 units for a six-month total of 34,838 units. A solid month for the Persona (1,309 units sold, 9,753 units total) capped off a strong showing for Proton’s four-doors.
Overall, the national carmaker sold 12.2% fewer cars in June compared to the previous month at 10,999 units, affected by an expected low total industry volume (TIV) and a planned one-week plant shutdown to implement operational improvements.
Launched in late November, the S70 is available in four variants – the Executive at RM73,800, the Premium at RM79,800, the Flagship at RM89,800 and the range-topping Flagship X at RM94,800. All are powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged MPI three-cylinder engine that puts out 150 PS and 226 Nm of torque, sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed wet dual-clutch tran..

2024 Proton X50 RC sees strong sales in launch month, back to top of segment with 1,711 units in June

The updated Proton X50 RC is off to strong start in its first full month of sales based on the carmaker’s latest sales results. Last month, 10,999 Proton vehicles (domestic and export) were delivered to customers, with the X50 making up 1,711 units.
This was enough to send the B-segment SUV back to the top of its class in June 2024 after dipping down to second in May 2024. In the first six months of this year, 10,204 units of the X50 have been sold.
The X50 RC (RC stands for Running Change) was launched in early June and still comes in four variants, namely the Standard, Executive, Premium and Flagship – pricing is between RM86,300 and RM113,300.
All variants feature a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels as well as a 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-three petrol engine, which is port injected in the Standard, Executive and Premium for 150 PS and 226 Nm of torque. The Flagship retains its direct-injected TGDi unit with 177 PS and 255 Nm. Production of these engines now takes place at the company’s Tanjung Malim plant.
Improvements have been made to the SUV’s NVH and infotainment system, the latter measuring 10.25 inches and with new hardware to increase boot-up and loading times. There’s also telematics via the Proton Link app and other revisions detailed in our launch story.

Proton eMas7 – name of Malaysia’s Galaxy E5 EV?

The eMas7 name is making its rounds on social media, and it is claimed to be used as the name of Proton’s first electric car that is due to be launched by the end of the year. This is based on the name being registered on the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), and lines up with the eMas (stylised e.MAS) brand for the national carmaker’s electric vehicles.
Before we jump the gun though, it needs to be said that Proton has had the habit of submitting various names to MyIPO either to have its competitors guessing what’s to come or just keep its options open. Over the last few years, it had also registered the names S3, S30, S300, S5, S50, S500, C5, C50, V5, V70, PS3, among others, none of which have been used.
As it is pretty much confirmed that the first eMas model will be based on the Geely Galaxy E5, the 7 in the rumoured name would make sense, as it’s a C-segment SUV (slightly larger than the X70). However, given that we also know that Proton will market a PHEV model as early as next year – likely based on the Galaxy L7 – we are more inclined to believe that the eMas models will have a prefix in their names.

Digital rendition of Proton eMas EV by Theophilus ChinThis could be, say, Proton eMas E7 for the electric model, and perhaps P7 (or L7) for the PHEV. Such a naming convention would give far more flexibility and room to grow, rather than attaching a number suffix directly on the sub-brand name itself. Proton has already announced it has no le..

Proton sold 10,999 units in May 2024 – down 12.2% from May; 73,696 units YTD; market share at 19.1%

Proton has announced that it delivered a total of 10,999 units (domestic and export) in June 2024, which is less than the 12,522 units it reported for May 2024. According to the carmaker, the decrease of nearly 12.2% was due to a planned one-week plant shutdown for scheduled operations improvement activities.
The company estimates its market share to be 19.1% for last month, the same as its year-to-date (YTD) market share figure. On that mention, Proton sold a total of 73,696 units in the first half of the year, with June 2024 also being the month it built its five millionth car.
Focusing on model-specific numbers, the X50 saw a return to the top of the B-segment SUV class last month with 1,711 units, its best performance in three months. The YTD sales tally for the X50, which recently got updated, for the first six months of 2024 currently stands at 10,204 units. As for other Proton SUVs, the X70 recorded 481 deliveries (2,976 units YTD) while the X90 saw 248 units sold (1,989 units YTD).
Once again, the Saga remained the brand’s most popular model with 5,441 units delivered in June 2024 for a YTD total of 34,838 units. The S70 was the third best-selling Proton model behind the Saga and X50 with 1,440 units, which allowed it to hold on to the top spot among C-segment sedans – its YTD total is 10,941 units.

Meanwhile, the Persona was the fourth best-selling model in the brand’s line-up with 1,309 deliveries last month (9,753 units YTD). Completing the l..
