Proton eMas – Pro-Net to fully manage the EV brand

Proton has announced that Proton New Energy Technology (Pro-Net) has taken the reins in managing its eMas electric vehicle brand following its official launch earlier this month. The national automaker said that Pro-Net, which handles smart, will be tasked with the responsibility of establishing the eMas brand, enhancing its market presence and preparing for product introductions, the first of which will be based on the Geely Galaxy E5.
It added that Pro-Net is set to recruit a dedicated team, which will establish a robust dealer network for the new EV brand as well as foster partnerships with charging providers to ensure it has a seamless EV ecosystem.

Proton CEO Li Chunrong expressed his confidence in Pro-Net’s capabilities. “The expertise Pro-Net has developed over the past two years positions us uniquely to elevate Proton eMas to the forefront of the EV industry. Our future customers will benefit from a holistic range of services that not only meet but exceed their expectations, similar to the premium experience provided to smart vehicle owners,” he said.
The automaker also announced the winners of its EV brand naming contest, and they are Puteri Hanna Batrisha Ibrahim (RM5,000 grand prize), Noor Hidayah Mohd Rodzi (RM1,500 runner-up) and Ahmad Norrizzuan Noor Azhar (RM1,000 third prize). The company added that over 25,000 people took part in the contest to guess the new brand name.

Proton eMas EV rendered – rebadged Geely Galaxy E5

News regarding Proton’s first electric vehicle have been coming thick and fast over the past few months, culminating in the launch of a dedicated eMas brand for new energy vehicles (NEVs) earlier this month. We also know that the car itself will almost certainly take the form of a rebadged Geely Galaxy E5, which is already being developed with right-hand-drive markets in mind, according to reports.
Now, Photoshop expert Theophilus Chin has come up with what he believes such a vehicle will look like wearing Proton badges. That’s about the only change done to the car visually, in line with Proton’s other Geely-based models such as the X70, X50, X90 and S70.
That means the as-yet-unnamed C-segment SUV carries over the design of the Galaxy E5 unchanged, including the sharp headlights, illuminated “grille” pattern, L-shaped bumper corners, gloss black wheel arch extensions and scalloped sides. The tiger head roundel at the front does at least look to be illuminated, which is a very nice touch.

At the rear, the Galaxy E5’s full-width taillights (with the Galaxy sub-brand’s “dashes” in the middle) and large rear diffuser have been augmented by the “Proton” script on the tailgate and the eMas logo on the bottom right. We should point out that Proton’s teaser for the final model features a slightly different design for the headlights, with an indicator strip at the top and hexagonal daytime running lights.

Proton builds 5 millionth car since 1983, is an X90 – over 2 million Sagas, 217,000 X-series SUVs sold

Proton has announced it has achieved a momentous milestone – the national carmaker has built its five-millionth car, 41 years since its founding. The landmark car, an X90 Flagship, was revealed in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the start of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, which was officially celebrated on May 31.
Of those five million units, over two million of those were of the Saga, cementing its position as Malaysia’s best-selling car ever. Meanwhile, Proton has sold more than 217,000 of its X-series SUVs ever since the X70 was launched back in 2018, a marker of its successful collaboration with Geely.
The partnership has resulted in four co-developed models, a comprehensively upgraded lineup of homegrown cars, quality improvements, investments in after-sales and parts management and the establishment of Malaysia’s largest network of 3S and 4S dealers. All this has contributed to five consecutive years of sales growth and a commensurate increase in production, Proton said in a statement.

“Proton was tasked with mobilising Malaysians and to establish a local automotive ecosystem when it was formed in 1983 and today, we continue to play a critical role in the nation’s economy,” said CEO Li Chunrong. “Over 100,000 people earn a living through activities linked to Proton and each of them played a role in driving the company towards this landmark achievement of five million units.”
He continued: “The five-milliont..

Proton eMas and smart EVs to complement, not compete against each other, says Pro-Net

With the launch of its new eMas electric vehicle brand, national automaker Proton now has two EV-related entities in its portfolio, the other being smart, which it is the official product distributor for in the country.
While the first product under the eMas (stylised as e.MAS) umbrella hasn’t appeared yet, only set to do so at the end of the year, we asked the company if the brand’s eventual market debut will see it competing directly against the other nameplate it represents.
The company said that it won’t be the case, because each will have its own unique identity, with a distinct segmentation between the two brands, not least in terms of pricing. “Branding wise, they are totally in two (different) segments,” said Pro-Net chief branding officer Salawati Mohd Yusoff, who added that they would complement each other.
While the Malaysian carmaker’s first production battery-electric vehicle, the eMas E7, won’t be a budget EV, given that it will be based on the Geely Galaxy E5, future models in the eMas line up should well be. To be underpinned by its Global Modular Architecture platform, models following the E7 will offer smaller – and thus more affordable – options to be presented.
As it progresses, eMas products will clearly sit within the mass-market segment with a variety of budget to mid-band offerings, while smart will play slightly higher up the field, continuing to present niche, lifestyle-oriented options as it does as present...
