Proton eMas 7 to be launched in Singapore in early 2025 – Vincar Group given distributorship of EV brand

Proton is set to re-enter the Singapore market following the recent appointment of Vincar Group as the official distributor of the Malaysian brand’s eMas electric vehicles (EVs).
The eMas 7, which was launched here on Monday (December 16, 2024), will go on sale in the island country in early 2025, Vincar said in a posting on Facebook. It adds that a flagship showroom will be opened at the Leng Kee automotive belt for sales and aftersales services.
Singapore is just one of a few countries that will welcome the eMas 7, with others revealed during the launch being Trinidad and Tobago, Nepal and Mauritius – Brunei is also part of this list based on the EV’s ASEAN NCAP report.
In Malaysia, the eMas 7 is priced from RM109,800 and comes in two variants, both with a front-mounted electric motor rated at 218 PS (215 hp or 160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. The Prime uses a 49.52-kWh version of Geely’s Aegis short blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a WLTP-rated range of 345 km, while the Premium’s larger 60.22-kWh pack means it delivers up to 410 km.

Proton eMas 7 will not be only vehicle used for ASEAN 2025; other EVs too, gov’t fleet to go electric in stages

The recently-launched Proton eMas 7 will be the official car of Malaysia’s ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, but other EVs will be used as well, said natural resources and environmental sustainability (NRES) minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, according to a Bernama report.
“We will use eMas 7 at a certain level, but the other levels will also be using mostly EVs of different brands. Actually, there are other EV vehicles that will be used, only the eMas 7 is the official vehicle, but there are other vehicles at various levels. There are levels for heads of state, heads of government, ministers, officials and so on, depending on specific requests and needs,” he said at a press conference after the handover ceremony of the Guidelines for the Transition of Government Vehicles to EVs yesterday.
He also revealed in a separate Bernama report that government vehicles would be transitioning to EVs in stages beginning next year, and that whether this would involve all levels or just certain departments would depend on needs and the finance ministry’s decision.
“It depends on needs as several aspects need to be taken into account because, in the (government vehicles transition) guidelines, we need to see what is the requirement. This depends on whether the transition can be fully met by domestic EVs or other EVs and so on,” Nik Nazmi said.

DRB-Hicom, Geely to collaborate with MIDA, MARii to grow AHTV into next-gen vehicle development hub

DRB-Hicom, together with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, has announced the signing of MoUs with Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) to collaborate on developing the Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim, Perak, into a global automotive hub focusing on the development of next-generation vehicles (NxGV) and energy efficient vehicles (EEV).
The MoU signed with MIDA aims to explore potential areas of co-operation and collaboration with global automotive supply chain players to establish a complete eco-system within AHTV and enhance capabilities of local suppliers to enable them to participate in the localisation of key components.
Meanwhile, the MoU inked with MARii will see both parties cooperating to build shared research and development (R&D) and testing facilities focusing on vehicle R&D, manufacturing, supply chain and NxGV testing capabilities recognised across the ASEAN region.
The latter will involve the establishment of the National Testing and Homologation Centre at AHTV with the intention of making it the country’s designated testing and certification centre for autonomous driving and EEV testing and homologation.

In addition, the parties have also agreed to develop local design capabilities and expertise in critical components such as the electric motor, battery management system and power distribution units. This will be carried out with assistance from Geely Holding.

Proton to continue running independently – PM Anwar

Proton will continue to operate independently without interference from the government, said prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, reported The Star.
“Proton’s illustrious history, founded by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has faced its share of challenges. The key lesson now is to strengthen its management while ensuring the government provides support and assistance without interfering in its operations,” said the prime minister.
“This is to ensure that Proton will have the freedom to conduct research and training, while guaranteeing that its administration and governance are at a good standard,” he added, during his speech at the official launch of the Proton eMas 7.

Citing the launch of Proton’s CKD assembly plant in Egypt, Anwar said that the national carmaker has laid the foundation for its manufacturing and distribution in the country, targeting northern African markets in particular.
The prime minister of Malaysia urged Proton to capitalise on the growing EV market by aligning with the National Automotive Policy 2020. “It is incumbent that companies that operate in our automotive industry do not just sell vehicles, but also open opportunities for investment and employment by setting up a holistic ecosystem,” the prime minister said.
Launched following a protracted teaser campaign, which began even before the order books opened at ACE 2024 in October, the Proton eMas 7 is offered in two variants – the base Prime variant..

Proton will soon add Bahasa Malaysia as an available language for “Hi Proton” voice commands in vehicles

Proton’s “Hi Proton” voice commands will soon be available in Bahasa Malaysia. This was revealed at yesterday’s launch of the eMas 7 and echoes what infotainment system supplier ACO Tech announced back in August this year.
At present, the “Hi Proton” voice control is only available in English, but ACO Tech had said previously that the next-generation version of its Atlas operating system will be able to support more languages. In addition to Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and even Cantonese were mentioned as available languages.
Further details weren’t provided at the time, so it’s not known which models will be updated with support for voice commands in Bahasa Malaysia. The newly launched eMas 7 can only accept voice commands in English for now, but it should gain support for Bahasa Malaysia when the feature is rolled out.

Proton eMas 7 to be ASEAN 2025 official car – Anwar

Prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said last night at the Proton eMas 7 launch that the vehicle would be the official car for Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, Bernama reports.
He said Malaysia hopes to set an example in the region in promoting EV development, emphasising that it is a direct visible extension of the country’s net zero commitment.
“In the near future, I am also happy to see that this car will be built in Malaysia in Tanjung Malim, hence uplifting Malaysian vendors through the transfer of new technologies and skills associated with EV,” he said, adding that choosing the eMas 7 also shows the government’s support for the first national EV.
Anwar said that as a national carmaker, Proton should leverage its role in the local automotive industry and the EV project, and take the National Automotive Policy 2020 as a reference for the eMas 7’s forthcoming local production.

He said companies in the industry should not just sell cars, but provide investment and employment opportunities through the establishment of a holistic ecosystem.
“But your challenge and our challenge too, is the supply side. We must ensure that you have the capacity and a clear policy to encourage local production and support local industries and local vendors, including the Bumiputera,” Anwar said.
He also expressed confidence that with the development of the Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjung Malim, more local vendors will be involved in the production of no..
