Proton X50 Sport Edition – based on 1.5T Premium, full black, red bodykit and accents, to go on sale later

Also unveiled at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) is the Proton X50 Sport Edition. As the name suggests, this variant gives the B-segment SUV a racier look, with a bodykit leading the changes.
The kit, which consists of a front splitter, side skirts and rear spats, is different from the R3-designed version seen before, here finished in red. It joins a stealthy aesthetic afforded by new black paint and a gloss black finish for the grille surround and tailgate garnish (previously satin chrome), as well as a red stripe along the car’s shoulder line.
Also fitted are new 18-inch ten-spoke gloss black alloy wheels, fitted to a lower-spec variant of the original Geely Binyue (the X50 usually gets the top-spec two-tone rollers on the Premium and Flagship variants). Finishing off the look is a chrome Sport Edition badge on the tailgate, with the car also gaining door sill scuff plates and a Qi wireless charger.
The Sport Edition is based on the upper-mid-spec Premium model, meaning it uses the port-injected 1.5 litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 150 PS and 226 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. It also means the car loses out on the Flagship’s driver assistance features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane centring assist.
Proton has yet to reveal if the car will have a limited run, nor has it provided the price. It has confirmed, however, that the Sport Edition will be sold to..

Proton S70 Concept shown at KLIMS 2024 – sportier sedan gets bodykit, lowered suspension, larger wheels

A year on from the launch of the Proton S70 and shortly after the sedan’s maiden foray into endurance racing at last month’s Sepang 1000KM, the national carmaker has brought a dressed-up version of the model to the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), dubbed the S70 Concept.
Exhibited at the Proton booth in a metallic yellow exterior wrap finish, the S70 Concept wears a different scheme compared to that worn on the S70 R3 race car that finished fifth in its class at the endurance race (which is also being displayed at KLIMS 2024).
Here, the S70 Concept gets a front grille that retains the chrome pins, albeit here with a blacked-out frame in place of the road car’s chrome-finished unit. The front bumper gets a larger splitter in black that extends further from the bodywork, and has a pair of supports which mount to the lower intake panel.

On top, the S70 Concept gets a gloss black roof, and a pair of black racing stripes which run from the front of the bonnet to the rear of the bootlid. Here, the S70 Concept also gets a bootlid-mounted spoiler finished in black. Lower down, there are side skirts, and the rear bumper also gets a diffuser-esque extension.
Wheels are 18-inch alloys finished in gloss black, shod in Bridgestone Potenza RE004 Adrenalin tyres measuring 235/40R18. These house yellow-painted calipers, which appear to be the factory-standard units. Further chassis alterations include lowered springs.

As standard, the S70 is powered by a 1...

Perodua eMO-II concept – full-size show car previews first EV, 0-100 km/h 6-7 secs, up to 410 km range

Welcome to what has got to be the biggest unveiling at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS). This is the new Perodua eMO-II concept, billed as “the next evolution of its prototype battery electric vehicle,” ahead of the production version’s launch sometime before the end of next year.
Unlike last year’s eMO scale model, this is a full-size show car – albeit one still made out of fibreglass (Bufori assisted with the finishing and painting) – that shows the clear advancement the national carmaker has made with its EV.
As previewed in Monday’s teaser, the eMO-II is, in some ways, even sportier-looking than the original eMO. The dramatic X-shaped front bumper with its sharp corners has been retained but has now been joined by a full-width light bar underlining an illuminated Perodua logo. There’s also a deep chin spoiler with ‘eMO-II’ embossed on it.

Moving to the side, one can see the dynamic design afforded by the wraparound windscreen design, heavily-raked rear windscreen and thick C-pillars. Side-view cameras replace the usual mirrors (sadly not destined for production), while lower down, you’ll find gloss black wheel arch flares highlighting the flared fenders. Curiously, there are vents low down in the rear doors.
The rear of the car is probably the sportiest angle, with a scalloped tailgate, a sizeable roof spoiler and a massive rear diffuser with a central fog light. A major theme of the design is a chequered songket p..

Perodua Ativa Fuze debuts at KLIMS 2024 – futuristic design and lighting on the outside, PS5 on the inside

This is the Perodua Ativa Fuze, a concept vehicle that has made its debut at this year’s Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS). With a name that stands for ‘Futuristic Urban Zen Experience’, the Fuze is presumably meant to provide occupants with a place where they can detach from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Looking noticeably different (and futuristic) when compared to a standard Ativa, the Fuze’s modifications include a new front end featuring a honeycomb grille that a light bar that runs through an illuminated Perodua logo. The round fog lamps have also been replaced with lighting elements sporting an ‘X’ motif, while an additional light strip highlights the base of the front bumper.

You’ll also notice a specific pattern applied to the area just above the lower intake which is replicated on the C-pillars. As for the sides, pronounced wheel arch surrounds in a two-tone scheme accompany the disc-style wheels, joined by a large ‘Fuze’ script and even more lighting near the rocker panels.
Moving to the rear, the tinted taillight lens covers have been replaced with clear ones, and there are now light bars on either side of the Perodua tailgate logo. A more expressive rear bumper, also with the pattern seen on the front and C-pillars, get the same light strip treatment as we’ve seen along the bottom portion of the vehicle. Note the roof-mounted light bar as well.
There are more surprises on the inside, as Perodua has ..

Geely not forgetting Proton – still committed to make Tg Malim its production and R&D hub for ASEAN

Geely has set up shop in Thailand and will be entering Australia and New Zealand next year – all right-hand-drive (RHD) markets – but the carmaker remains committed to Malaysia as its regional production and R&D hub.
“Geely remains dedicated to its initial pledge of making AHTV the regional production and R&D hub for the ASEAN markets,” Ash Sutcliffe, PR director of the Geely Holding Group told paultan.org in response to questions on the company’s commitment to Proton and Malaysia.
Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) was announced in April 2022 as an international automotive hub for NEVs (new energy vehicles, China’s term for electrified vehicles), spearheaded by Geely. AHTV is in the Tanjung Malim area, which is also the home of Proton.

“Geely will enter and establish dealer networks in Proton’s non-existent markets, starting with NEV products to build brand reputation, which will be complementary to Proton’s existing products,” Sutcliffe added. This means that both Proton and Geely brands will not enter the same markets – while Proton was previously present in Thailand and Australia, the Malaysian brand has since ceased operations in those markets.
“Geely will leverage its resources in these markets, either to assist Proton’s future entry or to export products from Malaysia using AHTV as a production hub, maximizing synergies with Proton and our partner DRB-Hicom,” Geely’s PR chief said. Full context here.

Pro-Net, EVC to install EV chargers at 100 condos for free, smart and Proton eMas get lower RM0.63/kW rate

Proton New Energy Technology (Pro-Net) and JomCharge operator EV Connection (EVC) have struck a deal to provide free electric vehicle chargers to 100 condominiums that do not currently have charging facilities, as well as lower charging rates for the circa-70 condos already on the JomCharge network.
The Pro-Net-EVC Condominium EV Charging Infrastructure Programme, as it’s so called, allows the management of condos to apply for these free EV chargers through the EVC website. Once approved by both EVC and Pro-Net, successful applicants will be eligible for the charger itself as well as the all infrastructure work required, covered compliance costs, a charger management system and the porting onto the JomCharge network.
Also provided as part of the deal is a profit/revenue-sharing mechanism, letting building management earn some money from it. Condo charging rates are set at RM0.70 per kWh, and starting next year, owners of smart EVs and the forthcoming Proton eMas 7 will receive a 10% lower rate of RM0.63 per kWh. The companies claim this is almost as low as Tenaga Nasional’s electricity tariff for landed properties. Users at existing condo charging facilities with time-based rates will get a similar discount.

The collaboration is an expansion of an existing joint venture between Pro-Net and EVC that currently manages the supply, installation, operation and maintenance of home wallbox chargers for the smart brand, having completed more than 400 installations to date. The..

Perodua EMO-II concept to debut at KLIMS – sporty hatch previews production EV, launch next year?

There’s an extra incentive to visit the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) next week – Perodua is unveiling its new EMO-II concept at the show. The third of the company’s Electric Mobility Online vehicles will be the clearest preview yet of the national carmaker’s first electric vehicle, set to be launched by the end of next year.
Essentially, the EMO-II is a more fleshed-out version of last year’s EMO scale model but is, in some ways, even sportier-looking, as teased by the video below. The front end retains the dramatic X-shaped front bumper and sharp corners, now joined by a full-width light bar underlining an illuminated Perodua logo. There’s also a deep chin spoiler with “EMO-II” embossed on it.
Moving to the side, one can see the heavily raked rear windscreen, giving the car a sleeker look compared to past Peroduas. But it’s at the back where the EMO-II looks arguably the most aggressive, with a slim letterbox rear windscreen, a sizeable rear spoiler, a scalloped tailgate, flared wheel arches and what appears to be an enormous diffuser with a triangular centre fog light. A running theme is a pixelated pattern that’s evident in the head- and taillights, flanks and rear windscreen.

As yet, it’s unclear whether the EMO-II will again be shown as a scale model or as a full-sized concept, but given the intricacy of the design, we’re putting our money on the latter. If so, it will likely carry the powertrain previewed by the EMO-I p..
