Proton eMas 7 EV goes on a 2,000 km nationwide tour

The upcoming Proton eMas 7 EV (stylised as e.MAS 7) is going on a nationwide road trip. The 2,000 km coast-to-coast journey, which will be flagged off tomorrow, October 5, will cover all states in the country.
Proton says that the upcoming electric SUV is now in its final phase of testing to tailor it for the needs of Malaysian consumers. The ‘e.MAS 7 Tour’, as the road trip is officially called, builds on the Geely Galaxy E5’s 3,700 km drive from Guiyang, China to Malaysia, which you can read about here.
Baton in Proton’s hand, the Malaysian twin of Geely’s latest EV is now set to traverse local roads while sampling culinary delights, starting with Negeri Sembilan and ending in Sarawak on November 29.
The first leg on the eMAS 7 Tour will bring the EV southbound from Proton’s COE base in Shah Alam to Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor. The route is punctuated with stops at charging stations and popular eateries where the public will get an opportunity to ‘interact and foster a connection with the eMAS 7’.

“The eMAS 7 Tour is the start of an exciting journey for the brand as it brings the bold, striking design of our first EV model down to the people while highlighting the progress in technology and innovation we have made,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of Pro-Net, Proton’s EV division that also handles smart.
“I am confident our team of dedicated engineers will accelerate the adaptation of the eMAS 7 to the unique conditions in Malay..

Click to enlargeIt’s here! Owners of the 2025 Proton X70 facelift are starting to get OTA updates for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making the X70 FL the first Proton model to officially come with the function.
As reported, wireless AACP was built into the SUV’s new infotainment system, but weren’t available at launch as Proton had some certification work to complete. It looks like they’re ready now.
Proton X70 facelift owner Syafiq Ismail shared his phone and car screens in the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group on Facebook, showing the familiar Apple CarPlay home screen on the X70 FL’s new and enlarged 12.3-inch IHU screen – see his pics above.

“Finally! At last! I’ve heard that the update will be released in stages. By the way let’s all welcome Proton Cars to the 21st century but hey, it’s better late than never right?,” the happy owner posted. So, now that Proton has started rolling out the OTA update, expect to see it soon in your fresh X70, which should still have that new car smell.
Behind the new 12.3-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen is a system powered by Atlas 2.0. The IHU’s hardware has been upgraded to dual quad-core processors, 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. USB-C ports are now available, mixed with USB-A to cater to all cables. Proton sold 11,269 units in Sept 2024, YTD down 3% vs 2023 – S70, X50, X70 and X90 lead own segments

Proton has recorded sales of 11,269 units including exports in the month of September 2024 bringing a year-to-date total of 112,758 units, having breached the 100,000-unit mark for the sixth year running for the preceding month of August 2024.
This is slightly down on the 12,690 units sold in August as the total market volume had shrunk by 22.2%, though the national car company continues to retain second place in the national vehicle sales rankings with a forecast market share of 20.1% for the month, and a year-to-date figure of 19.1% for the full year of 2024.
Total industry volume (TIV) for the Malaysian automotive market is estimated to have dropped to 56,067 units, or by 22.2% from the previous month; September has historically been a slow month for vehicle sales, said Proton. However, the estimated year-to-date total remains ahead of 2023, with a total volume of just under 590,000 units representing a 3% gain over last year, according to the carmaker.

The month of September 2024 saw the Proton X50, X70 and X90 take the volume lead in their respective B-SUV, C-SUV and D-SUV segments. The X50 sold 1,771 units last month (17,000 YTD), the X70 facelift sold 1,466 units (5,482 units YTD), and the X90 sold 217 units (2,724 units YTD).
For comparison with September 2023 figures, the X50 sold 2,210 units (24,960 units YTD 2023), the X70 sold 779 units (8,778 units YTD 2023), and the X90 sold 491 units (3,435 units YTD 2023). The carmaker’s September 2024 YTD sales volume is..

Proton S70 R3 getting ready for Sepang 1000KM; powered by 1.6L naturally aspirated Campro engine?

Proton is returning to the Sepang 1000KM endurance race for the first time since 2019 with the Proton S70 R3, when the carmaker won with the Iriz for a tally of three consecutive wins at the endurance race, including in 2017 and 2018.
The Malaysian carmaker has released footage of the production-class race car undergoing tests at Proton’s test facility, and it is scheduled for shakedown at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit today. The S70 R3 is the first Proton model jointly developed with Geely that will be campaigned by Proton’s motorsport division, R3 which will be entering two cars into this year’s edition of the Sepang 1000KM (S1K).
Externally the S70 R3 appears much the same as the road car it is based on, albeit with competition car additions such as the large rear spoiler, wheels as seen on the S70 R3 Malaysian Touring Car show unit which are a set of 15-inch Raxer RP10X flow-formed alloy wheels in 195/55R15 tyres. These house a set of high-performance brakes, and alignment appears to have been set for added negative camber.

The interior of the S70 R3 appears to be kitted with the expected fitout of equipment for competition cars, namely a rollcage, racing bucket seats, Motec instrumentation, racing driver’s pedal box, competition fuel tank, and more. In the clip, the S70 R3 being tested on the rolling road can be seen to employ a H-pattern manual gearbox.
Powertrain for the S70 R3 has yet to be revealed, though from the audio of th..

Proton eMas – number of dealerships increased to 36

Proton, through its Pro-Net (Proton New Energy Technology) subsidiary, has announced it has appointed 36 dealerships for its eMas (stylised as e.MAS) sub-brand. This is an increase from the 29 dealerships announced during the preview of the eMas 7 in August this year.
Proton eMas was officially launched on June 12, with the eMas 7 set to be the first of a few models presumably coming our way. A month after the brand’s introduction, it was revealed that there would be 18 eMas showrooms, with the company aiming to have 25 by 2025. In the following month, that figure rose to 29 confirmed dealerships, with 25 set to be opened by the time the eMas 7 goes on sale, including in East Malaysia.
In the same release announcing the increase in appointed eMas dealerships, the company also said it brought 40 dealer executives and principals to visit the Geely Research Institute (GRI) in Hangzhou, China. Besides a tour of the facility, the guests also had the chance to sample a few Geely models on closed roads.
“Since the launch of the Proton e.MAS brand in June, the pace of development ahead of our first model launch has been breathtaking. The addition of 19 new dealerships to our ecosystem shows the enthusiasm surrounding the impending arrival of Proton’s first EV while the enthusiastic response received from our dealer principals who participated in the Geely tour has been overwhelming,” said Zhang Qiang.

“Geely’s extensive research into intelligent techn..

2025 Proton X70 facelift in Malaysia – full live gallery of top-spec Premium X with new looks, tech, RM126,800

The facelifted 2025 Proton X70 was launched in August and we’ve finally gotten our hands on one in Jet Grey. If you’ve been waiting to get a closer look at the refreshed C-segment SUV, we now have a full live gallery for you to pore over to your heart’s content.
Available in the same four variants as before, the X70 is priced at RM98,800 for the Standard, RM110,800 for the Executive and RM123,800 for the Premium. The unit you see here is the range-topping Premium X with a panoramic glass sunroof, retailing at RM126,800. These figures are the same as before, and there’s even a RM7,000 rebate for the first 3,000 customers, bringing the starting price down to RM91,800.
The X70 has been the recipient of several powertrain and refinement updates, but this round it’s all about the looks. The car has received its first proper facelift since going on sale six years ago, drawing from its sibling, the 2022 Geely Boyue.

At the front sits a much bolder grille that sits proud of the fascia, with the same songket pins as the X90. This is flanked by slimmer full-LED reflector headlights, sitting above a re-profiled bumper with a “wing” design. The bonnet and front fenders have also been tweaked to fit the new parts, so converting an existing X70 to the new look will be a costly and time-consuming endeavour.
Moving to the rear, you’ll find a redesigned rear bumper with horizontal reflectors, fake corner air vents and a taller gloss black decorative skid plate. This piece is uniq..

Proton eMas 7 will be on display at ACE 2024 – first show of EV SUV’s interior, open to public Oct 26-27

We’ve seen the upcoming Proton eMas 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7) – the carmaker’s first EV – wrapped in camo, and have even tested its Geely Galaxy E5 twin, so what’s the next milestone in the electric SUV’s pre-launch campaign? 10 points for those who answered ‘interior’.
The cabin of the Proton eMas 7 will be revealed at the paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2024 show, which will take place over the weekend of October 26-27 at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC). The showcar will be a pre-production unit and it will still have exterior stickers as camouflage, but everyone will be able to touch, feel and try the eMas 7 out for size.
The Proton eMas 7, which is the right-hand-drive version of the Geely Galaxy E5, isn’t a 100% rebadge job. Proton says that it has performed plenty of local testing and had even requested and implemented 49 additional testing processes – some of which are unique to Proton – to ensure the eMas 7 meets both local and global standards. These include tests for the SUV’s load performance and stability control.
The eMas 7 also has a maximum water wading depth of 400 mm to provide additional protection against floods – this is higher than the Geely. The depth test was simulated at Proton’s proving ground in July, where the company also conducted a speed bump test to simulate actual Malaysian road conditions. Apparently, an issue was found during the test and has since been fixed.
Tanjong Malim also claims a revised suspension..

Proton trademarks eMas 3 and 5, eMas 7 PHEV – more EVs, PHEV based on Geely Galaxy Starship 7 coming?

Geely Galaxy Starship 7
The forthcoming Proton eMas 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7) is just one of several models set to be launched under the carmaker’s new electric vehicle (EV) brand. Recent trademark filings with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) suggest the line-up will also include the eMas 3 (e.MAS 3) as well as the eMas 5 (e.MAS 5).
Filing trademarks is not an uncommon practice among carmakers in order to lay claim to certain names for their models, although it is no guarantee that they will be used – remember when Proton trademarked the Idaman, Persada, Exia, Esfora names?
Of course, the eMas 3 and eMas 5 names have a high likelihood of being used given Proton will likely want to expand its range of eMas offerings after the eMas 7 goes on sale, as teased by the company prior to the brand’s launch.

For now, there’s no official word that there will be an eMas 3 and eMas 5, although the latter could be based on Geely’s Geometry Xingyuan, with the EV being shown to Proton eMas dealers not too long ago.
A check with MyIPO also shows Proton trademarking eMas 7 PHEV (e.MAS 7 PHEV), which suggests a plug-in hybrid model is also on its way. The ‘7’ suggests it to be in the same class as the eMas 7, although the eMas 7 is a pure EV and isn’t available with a PHEV system.
A model that could fit the bill is the upcoming Geely Galaxy Starship 7, which was revea..
